103
RESOLUTION 1995- 210 R
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN
MARCOS, TEXAS, EXPRESSING THE CITY'S OPPOSITION TO
THE PROPOSED REMOVAL OF THE AQUARENA SPRINGS
RESORT COMPLEX FROM THE PROPERTY TAX ROLL BY
SOUTHWEST TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY; AND DECLARING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
RECITALS:
1. In 1994, the Aquarena Springs resort complex, including a hotel, a lakeside
restaurant and gift shop, a golf course, a theme park with entertainment activities and
rides, and the Peppers-at-the-Falls restaurant, was purchased by Southwest Texas State
University (the "!Jniversity").
2. The University is considering the possibility of removing the resort complex from
the tax roll, in spite of the fact that the complex remains open to the public as a business
venture for tourism, lodging, leisure and restaurant activities.
3. The tourism, lodging, leisure and restaurant activities of m~mbers of the public
at the resort complex are not directly associated with the University's higher education
curriculum.
4. The removal of the resort complex from the tax roll will have a significant adverse
effect on taxpaying citizens in San Marcos, and may have additional adverse effects on
tourism and sales tax revenues in the City.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS:
PART 1. That the City of San Marcos is ópposed to the proposed removal of the
Aquarena Springs resort complex from the tax roll by the University.
PART 2. That this Resolution is in full force and effect immediately upon its
passage.
ADOPTED this 4 th day of December
m.V~
J\ttest:
j '2::1' -,I ,.1
(" .'I',':~ fl'};¡, IV
"l-,t". v'.- ¡I____il
. ,
Janis K.
