<br /> 112 <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 1994- 40R <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br /> MARCOS, TEXAS SUPPORTING THE DESIGNATION OF <br /> INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 35 AS THE NAFTA HIGHWAY¡ <br /> SUPPORTING THE PROVISION OF APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AND <br /> STATE FUNDING TO IMPROVE THE NAFTA HIGHWAY AND <br /> DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> RECITALS: <br /> 1. Transportation of commercial goods is vital to <br /> a strong, growing economy. <br /> 2. It is the position of the United States, <br /> Canadian and Mexican governments that increased commercial <br /> traffic is beneficial to all three economies. <br /> 3. It is the goal of the United States, Canada, <br /> and Mexico to improve the transportation infrastructure of <br /> all three nations. <br /> 4. Interstate Highway 35 (IIIH-3511) is a major <br /> highway linking all of the NAFTA trading partners, Mexico, <br /> Canada and the United States and is the only major north - <br /> south interstate highway that is easily accessible to the <br /> heartland of the United States. <br /> 5. More commercial goods flow into and out of the <br /> United States via travel on IH-35 than any other major <br /> highway. <br /> 6. The Austin-San Antonio Corridor is built <br /> around and linked by IH-35 and over 70% of the United State's <br /> trade with Mexico travels along IH-35 and the Greater <br /> Austin-San Antonio Corridor. <br /> 7. It is the position of the Corridor Council <br /> that IH-35 henceforth be referred to as the IINAFTA Highwayll. <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> PART 1. That the City of San Marcos supports the <br /> designation of IH-35 as the "NAFTA Highway II by federal and <br /> state officials. <br /> PART 2. That the City of San Marcos supports the <br /> provision of federal and state funding to enhance and improve <br /> the ability of the NAFTA Highway to facilitate more trade <br /> traffic into and out of the United States. <br /> PART 3.
