Reserved. <br /> ARTICLE VIII <br /> NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE <br /> Division 1. Generally <br /> Sec. 5-131. National Electrical Code adopted. <br /> (a) The National Electrical Code (NFiPA 70-1993), 1993 <br /> Edition (the "NEC") , and the Electrical Code for One-and <br /> Two-Family Dwellings (NFipA70A) , 1987 Edition, are adopted <br /> herein by reference. <br /> (b) The provisions of this Article shall control over all <br /> other parts of this Chapter in the event o~ a conflict. <br /> Sec. 5-132. National Electrical Code Amendments. <br /> The following rules shall take precedence over and <br /> supersede any portion of the NEC where conflicts occur: <br /> (a) The following minimum wire sizes shall be used for <br /> the type of circuit indicated: <br /> (1) No branch circuit shall have wire smaller than <br /> #12 AWG. This does not prohibit smaller wire <br /> sizes for circuits 90 volts and lower, nor for <br /> control circuits. <br /> (2) Built-in ovens shall have a minimum wire size <br /> of #10 AWG copper. <br /> (3) Ranges shall have a minimum wire size of #8 <br /> AWG copper, or equivalent aluminum. <br /> (4) Window air conditioners shall have a minimum <br /> wire size of #10 AWG Copper. <br /> (5) Water heaters shall have a minimum wire size <br /> of #10 AWG copper. <br /> (b) No aluminum wire smaller than #6 AWG shall be used. <br /> (c) No copperclad wire shall be used. <br /> (d) Certain wiring methods permitted under the NEC shall <br /> not be allowed (except where existing prior to adoption of <br /> this Article), specifically: <br /> (1) Article 320 - Open Wire On Insulators <br /> (2) Article 324- Concealed Knob-and-Tube Wiring <br /> (3) Article 333- Armored Cable <br /> (e) Nonmetallic-sheathed cable (Article 336) and <br /> shielded nonmetallic-sheathed cable (Article 337) shall be <br /> permitted to be used only in dwellings, as defined in <br /> Article 100.
