Corrective pruning at transplanting consists of removal of dead or <br /> injured branches and water sprouts. No other pruning is permitted <br /> unless approved by the TFS representative. <br /> . Wrap th~ lower trunk of thin-barked trees exposed to the sun with <br /> a waterproof wrap working from the ~round upward. <br /> . Transplanted trees must be staked the first year to help the tree <br /> become established. Provide some flexibility to allow the stem <br /> and root system to develop strength. For trees 2-6 inches in <br /> diameter, use two guys to either wood (2" x 2" x 5') or metal <br /> stakes. Stakes must not be driven through the root ball. Stakes <br /> must be removed the second y~ar. Attach the tree to stakes with <br /> wide plastic or nylon straps. Note no wire should touch the <br /> tree. Duckbill~ earth anchors, or similar products with <br /> protectjve tree collars, may also be used. Each anchor should be <br /> capable of holding a minimum of 300 pounds. <br /> 9.3 Plant Material Specifications <br /> . Refer to the approved species list in this Guide (Trees <br /> Recommended for Texas). Refer to the part of the list that <br /> includes your county, only those trees should be in~luded in your <br /> grant proposal.
