I~P

Each meter will be calibrated for accuracy prior to installation. After
the monitors have been checked and calibrated, they will be ready for
installation. Each instrument will be checked routinely to determine if
re-calibration is needed.

Prior to installation, each manhole will be inspected to determine if
any special problem might be encountered, i.e., surcharging, extreme
depths, debris, etc. Once this is ascertained, the installation will be
initiated by the field crew. The operation and maintenance wlll be
handled by a crew of two men. The typical checking cycle is once per
week. Each instrument will be inspected to confirm operation of the
meter. Routine maintenance and service will be performed. The depth
and velocity sensors will be inspected to ensure they are clean and free
of any debris. A formal log of each such check will be recorded and
filed. The manhole number (meter location), date, time on meter, and
the time of manual depth verification will be indicated on the log.
During this phase, a written record will be maintained for each
monitoring point for each site inspection.

A total of 12 flow meters will be installed for an 8 week monitoring
period. It is anticipated that an 8 week monitoring period will be
sufficient to collect data necessary for system analysis. It should be
noted however, that if sufficient rainfall does not occur during the 8
week monitoring period, then additional monitoring will be recommended.
Costs associated with this additional flow monitoring may be handled as
supplemental services to this contract. ~

2. Install and Service Rain Gauges. Continuous recording rainfall
gauges will be installed and operated during the flow monitoring period.
The rainfall gauges will be "tipping-bucket" rainfall gauges accurate to
0.01 inches.

A total of 3 rainfall gauges will be installed and operated.

D. Flow and Rainfall Data Analysis.

Comprehensive data analysis will be performed to evaluate system behavior and
develop model input parameters.

1. Determine Wastewater Production. Wastewater flow exclusive of
infiltration and inflow will be determined from population and land use
data and estimated wastewater production rates within each sewershed and
subsystem.

2. Determine Average Daily Dry Weather Flow. The 'normal. dry weather
low groundwater flow will be determined based on water meter data during
dry weather/low groundwater conditions. Wastewater production diurnal
peaking factors will be developed for each basin.

3. Determine Infiltration Flow. The infiltration flow (additional
flow during high groundwater/dry weather conditions) will be determined
for each subsystem. The infiltration will be expressed in units to
allow comparison between basins.

06/02/93

A-9
