<br /> c;ffÐ <br /> GOAL 5T ATEMENT <br /> The San Marcos Police Department seeks to playa more active and direct role <br /> in helping to identify and solve the problems facing youth in this community. <br /> The School Resource Officer project described herein proposes funding for the <br /> hiring of one (1) additional police officer who will be assigned full-time to <br /> join with the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District and other <br /> service providers who seek to address the problems facing youth in our <br /> com m unity. Our partners in this effort include: <br /> San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District <br /> Partnership for a Drug Free San Marcos ~ <br /> Other Community Agencies as Appropriate <br /> Public Safety Need <br /> The community of San Marcos is located halfway between the cities of Austin <br /> , <br /> (30 miles) and San Antonio. Texas (SO miles) on the edge of the hill country. It <br /> has an ethnically diverse population that. according to latest Bureau of the <br /> Census data. totals 35,135. with 31 % Hispanic. 4% African American. 0.7% <br /> Asian/Pacific Islander, 0.1 % Native American and 64% white. The comm unity <br /> has a university student population of over 21,000 attending Southwest Texas <br /> State University (SWT). <br /> 1 <br />
