<br />52 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 1992- 23 R <br /> <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEAS, URGING THE TEXAS <br />DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO COMPLETE THE <br />WIDENING OF INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 35 BETWEEN <br />AUSTIN AND SAN ANTONIO AND TO REFRAIN FROM <br />EXPENDING ADDITIONAL FUNDS ON THE ALTERNATE <br />ROUTE STUDY BETWEEN AUSTIN AND SAN ANTONIO <br />UNTIL THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 35 PROJECT IS <br />COMPLETED; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Interstate Highway 35 in the Austin/San Antonio <br />Corridor is one of the most heavily travelled sections of <br />interstate highway in Texas; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this section is rapidly becoming a serious <br />bottleneck, thereby creating hazardous conditions that <br />threaten life and property, and a deterrent to economic <br />growth; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the construction planned for this area has been <br />underway for some time, but has only been partially <br />completed. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />PART 1. That the City Council of the City of San Marcos <br />urges the Texas Department of Transportation to complete the <br />widening and related improvements to Interstate Highway 35 as <br />expeditiously as possible; and, <br /> <br />PART 2. That the Texas Department of Transportation <br />should refrain from expending any additional funds for <br />studying, planning or constructing an alternate route between <br />Austin and San Antonio, and redirect those funds to the <br />Interstate Highway 35 project between Austin and San Antonio <br />until it is completed. <br /> <br />SECTION 3.
