ORDINANCE NO. 2013-14 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION, <br />ARTICLE 2, SECTION 2.024 OF THE SAN MARCOS CITY CODE, TO <br />INCREASE THE COMPENSATION FOR EACH COUNCIL MEMBER <br />FROM $500 PER MONTH TO $950 PER MONTH AND TO INCREASE <br />THE COMPENSATION FOR THE MAYOR FROM $750 PER MONTH TO. <br />$1.,200 PER MONTH; INCLUDING PROCEDURAL PROVISIONS; AND, <br />ESTABLISHING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />RECITALS: <br />1. In a special election held in November 2008, the Citizens of San Marcos approved <br />various revisions to the San Marcos City Charter including a revision to Section 3.04 <br />to allow the City Council, by ordinance adopted in a public forum, to set a level of <br />compensation. Council compensation was previously set by Ordinance No. 2009 -61 <br />on November 17, 2009. <br />2. An increase of $450 per month would provide sufficient funds for the mayor and <br />council members to purchase of private health insurance <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SAN MARCOS: <br />SECTION 1. Chapter 2, Administration, Article 2, City Council, Division 1, Section <br />2.024 of the San Marcos City Code is amended to read as follows (underlining indicates added <br />text; indicate deleted text): <br />2.024 Council Compensation <br />(a) The compensation for each council member is set at the sum of !�590 :89 950 per <br />month. This sum may be taken, in the alternative, as an addition to a council member's <br />reimbursable expense account and used for the purposes set forth by resolution of the council. A <br />council member is not obligated to accept the compensation or additional funds for expenses <br />authorized under this subsection. <br />(b) The compensation for the mayor is set at the sum of X58:88 $1,200 per month. This <br />sum may be taken, in the alternative, as an addition to the mayor's reimbursable expense account <br />and used for the purposes set forth by resolution of the council. The mayor is not obligated to <br />accept the compensation or additional funds for expenses authorized under this subsection. <br />
