<br />Tbe CitJ <br /> <br />Location and Populadoa <br /> <br />The City of San Marcoa is the county seat and principal commercial, educational and recreational center of Hays County located <br />in the center of the State of Texas in the Au.tin statistical metropolitan area, approximately midws.y between the metropolitan <br />areas of San Antonio and Austin. The City is located on Interstate Highway 35, U. The annusl total precipitation is 35.6 inches. Rainfall occun in late <br />spring and early fall. The mean length of the growing season (without freeze) is 2S4 days. San Marcos receives about 25% <br />of the total pos.ible sunshine annudy. <br /> <br />Municipal Governmeat <br /> <br />The City bas a City CouncillManager form of governmeot with an eJected council of six memben and an electc:d mayor. The <br />police department is composed of 49 city policemen and the .fire department has 30 full time .firefighting personnel and 20 <br />volunteer firefighten. There are 3 .fire stations, 3 engine companiea, 1 reserve company, and a swift. water resc1}e team. <br /> <br />In 1983, the San Marcos City Council adopted the San Marco. Master Plan. This document represents the goals and objectives <br />of the citizens of San Marcos. These policies are used to effectively guide and coordinate the development of the San Marcos <br />community and to guide public officials in the development of annual capital improvement programs. This Master Plan <br />encourages the public agencies to coordinate their lCIVica in an efficient and economic JJJanI1U and guide private development <br />to those areas most suitable in order to coordinate both public and private development effortl.
