SUMMARY
Southside Community Center, with over 65 years of experience
dealing with social welfare problems, established a homeless
shelter in 1985. Essential services and prevention services have
long been lacking in the Hays County area. Southside Community
Center houses 100 to 125 homeless clients each month during the
Summer and approximately 250 clients per month during the
Winters~
The objective of the center is to reintroduce homeless clients
back into the Hays County communities as productive members of
those communities. Also, to prevent high risk clients from
becoming homeless due to a sudden reduction in income. The
methods include extensive counseling in regards to employment,
mental health, nutritional needs, and combines all this with an
effort to establish these individuals in permanent housing. The
total cost of the project is $75,866.00 with a request of
$37,833.00 and a 50% match of $38,033.00 by the agency.
Page 1
