GENERAL CRITERIA FOR GRANT AWARDS <br /> A. Established libraries submitting applications must meet the <br /> criteria established by the Texas State Library for membership in the <br /> Texas Library System. <br /> B. Applicants proposing to initiate service with the new facility must <br /> furnish certification that they will meet the criteria established by the <br /> Texas State Library for membership in the Texas Library System when the <br /> facility opens for service. <br /> C. If the proposed application is for the construction, purchase, an <br /> addition to, or remodeling of a main library, the facility must meet the <br /> minimum gross square footage requirements set forth in Wheeler and <br /> Goldhor's Practical Administration of ~braries, 1981. However, the <br /> table below from Wheeler and Goldhor has been modified to permit <br /> construction of a facility no smaller than 5,000 square feet. <br /> POPULATION SIZE** GROSS SQUARE FEET PER CAPITA <br /> Under 10,000 .7 sq. ft. per capita or 5,000 square <br /> feet, whichever is greater <br /> 10,000 - 34,999 .6 <br /> 35,000 - 99,999 .5 <br /> 100,000 - 199,999 .4 <br /> 200,000 - 499,999 .35 <br /> 500,000 - .3 <br /> ** Population size will be based upon the library's service area, as <br /> assigned under the Rules for Administering the Library Systems Act. <br /> <br /> 1 <br />
