About 67% say they "often" participate in <br /> local elections. [see end note #2] <br /> RATINGS OF CITY SERVICES <br /> AND WILLINGNESS TO PAY FOR IMPROVEMENTS <br /> The survey asked respondents to rate on a scale of <br /> from "excellent" to "poor" a variety of services offered by <br /> the city. Responses are shown in Table 2. <br /> [See Table 2] <br /> Services offered by the city of San Marcos receive <br /> generally high marks from respondents. Eighty-seven percent <br /> of respondents, for example, rate "fire" services as <br /> excellent or good. Eighty-two percent rate "emergency medical <br /> service" as excellent or good, and seventy percent rate <br /> "library" service as excellent or good. "Drainage and storm <br /> sewer" and "street maintenance," on the other hand, receive <br /> relatively low evaluations. Seventy five percent of the <br /> population rate street maintenance as only "fair" or "poor." <br /> Table 2a shows results of these evaluations accounting <br /> for the four categories of respondents examined throughout <br /> 8 <br />
