Table 2c shows that in all categories of service
relatively small proportions of respondents express a
willingness to exchange lower taxes for reduced services.
Very little variance to this pattern is evident when
considering sector of residence or ethnicity. Residents of
the East sector are slightly more accepting of reduced
services in the areas of street maintenance, animal control,
code enforcement, and park maintenance than are residents of
other areas. Hispanics by small percentages are more willing
than Anglos to accept reduced services in the areas of parks,
recreation, street maintenance, animal control, code
enforcement, and health and social services. But, overall,
the general conclusion is that only very small proportions of
San Marcos residents express an interest in accepting reduced
services in exchange for reduced taxes and this pattern does
not vary much by any category of respondent examined.
RATINGS OF OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICES
Respondents were asked to evaluate other community
services available to citizens of San Marcos, such as public
schools, continuing education, county government, day care
facilities, local newspapers and radio stations, health
services, and cable television. Results are shown in Table 3.
[See Table 3]
15
