Table 3 indicates that respondents give fairly
positive evaluations to most other community services. More
than 50% of respondents rate as "excellentll or IIgood" the
public schools, continuing and vocational education
opportunities, health services, and cable television. The
exceptions to these positive èvaluations are respondent
ratings of "local newspapers" and "local radio stations.tt
Over 60% of respondents rate these two services as only
IIfair" or "poor" as Table 3 shows.
Table 3a examines these evaluations accounting for the
various categories of respondents.
[See Table 3a]
Some interesting patterns are noted when considering
the various categories of respondents. Students give
somewhat higher ratings to such services as "continuing
education," "county government," "local newspapers," and
"cable television," than do residents. Residents, on the
other hand, rate more favorably "public schools," "day care
facilities," "local radio stations," and "health services"
than do the students. Residents of Central San Marcos rate
most services more highly than do residents of other sectors,
but they are the sector most critical of the public schools
17
