<br /> THE CITY OF <br /> SAN MARCOS <br /> <br /> Project Summary <br />The City of San Marcos is committed to the protection and <br />preservation of the Edwards Aquifer through the establishment of <br />effective conservation programs and development of alternate water <br />sources for municipal uses. <br />On October 10, 1989, the City of San Marcos contracted with the <br />Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) for the future purchase of <br />5,000 acre feet of water annually from Canyon Lake Reservoir, with <br />an option to increase the initial annual commitment of surface <br />water This contract is scheduled to begin on January 1, 1995 or <br />at the completion of the City' s surface water treatment plant, <br />whichever occurs first. <br />The surface water treatment plant will have the capacity to <br />process six million gallons per day. Based on our contract for <br />5,000 acre feet per year, the plant initially will supply 4.5 <br />million gallons of water daily to the City's water system. This <br />provision of surface water will allow the City to reduce pumping <br />significantly from the aquifer. It is anticipated that surface <br />City Hall. 630 East Hopkins.
