-4 ~I(.a) Chapter 36 SAN MARCOS RIVER CORRIDOR. Sec. 36-1. Findings and objectives. (a). Findings. (1) The City of San Marcos is the trustee of the natural envi- ronment of the San Marcos River for existing and future generations of citizens of the city and its environs; and (2) The San Marcos River provides significant and irreplace- able recreational opportunities to the citizens of the city and its environs; and (3) The San Marcos River ecosystem is biologically unique, some species found in the first few kilometers of the San Marcos River are found nowhere else; and (4) Development that is insensitively planned, improperly con- structed, or poorly maintained near the San Marcos River can result in irreparable damage to the natural environ- ment and, particularly, to the quality of the water in the San Marcos River; and (5) The San Marcos River corridor, due to highly erodible soils and rare biotic communities is highly susceptible to irrep- arable damage resulting from development activities; and (6) The San Marcos River corridor is facing intense develop- ment; and (7) The continued economic growth and quality of life of the city is dependent on a pleasing natural environment, qual- ity recreational opportunities and unique Batural resources within, and in close proximity to the city; and *Editor's note-Ord.
