'rIlE ("1'1',,""'"
~A~ :\IAH.C()~

PROJECT PROPOSAL
CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT SUBGRANTS
(PART II)
The City of San Marcos received a 1991 CLG SubGrant to
establish a survey and inventory of historic properties
within its three existing historic districts. Under that
grant, a filing system is being established and research for
individual historic properties is being conducted in
accordance with the THC GUIDELINES FOR SURVEY AND PLANNING
GRANTS.
PROJECT #1
The City has conducted an interest survey of property owners
within three areas beyond the existing historic district,
which contain historically significant structures. THC
indicates there are approximately 1,000 historic structures
throughout the community whose historical preservation,
recognition and nomination need to be surveyed and
inventoried. This project would engage a professional
consultant to conduct a survey of all pre-1945 structures,
assign high or low priority rating, note address and
approximate construction date. This data will then be used
by staff to analyze and create a plan to increase and/or
expand historic district(s) within the corporate limits of
the city of San Marcos.
In addition, this scope of this project will be to continue
and enhance the acquisition of photography of each of the
structures within the three existing historic districts, to
include negatives of all surveyed sites with property
identification of each view, contact sheets and photo index
sheets. The purchase of a camera is included in the City's
CLG CASH match as well as supplies, copies and
transportation reimbursements. CLG IN-KIND match includes
professional staff salaries and benefits. Additionally, the
staff time and benefits have been included as IN-KIND match
for secretarial and cartographer contributions to the
completion of these files.
City Hall. 630 East Hopkins.
