Field measurements of
pH, specific conductance and temperature will be performed and
samples will be analyzed in a laboratory for general chemistry
parameters required by the Texas Department of Health and
Priority Pollutant volatile organic compounds. Detailed lists
of parameters and EPA-approved analytical methods are presented
in this section.

The procedures for collecting, handling and analyzing ground-
water samples are described below. Deviations from these
procedures may be required during the program. Such deviations
will first be approved by the Project Manager.

Decontamination

All equipment used to measure water levels or to purge and
sample wells will be decontaminated before each use. Water
level indicators will be rinsed with distilled water. Bailers,
Teflon ropes and wire cables will be decontaminated in the
following manner:

1)
2)
3)

Scrub with non-phosphate detergent solution.
Rinse with distilled water.
Wrap in plastic until needed.

If non-Teflon ropes are used to lower bailers, they will be
discarded between locations.

Headspace. water level and immiscible laver measurements

After opening the well, and prior to any water level
measurements, purging or water sampling, the air in the wellhead
(headspace) will be sampled by inserting the probe of an organic
vapor meter several inches into the well and recording the

5
