92
Chamber of Commerce
512/396-2495 . P.O. Box 2310 . San Marcos, Texas 78667-2310
202 C. M. Allen Parkway
Mayor Morris and Council Members:
The Board of Directors of the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce
unanimously supports a City Council resolution establishing the
terms and conditions of a Tax Abatement Agreement with Rohr
Industries, Inc..
We applaud the leadership and efforts of City Council and those
of our city staff to encourage and foster needed economic
development in our city, especially during these crucial economic
times, to create new jobs and expand our tax base.
Many of our member businesses are experiencing difficult times
and need the economic impact generated by such a great project as
the Rohr HTA manufacturing plant.
Realizing that recruitment among cities in Texas, and across
America, is highly competitive for business relocations and
expansions, we must be united and aggressive in our efforts to
develop quality, controlled growth through successful economic
development.
Throughout America, public and private incentives are a critical
factor in economic development. Fortunately, San Marcos has many
advantages and has not found it necessary to offer large
incentive packages, which is often done by more isolated
communities.
The public and private incentives that have been offered, by the
City and San Marcos businesses, generate a win-win situation for
everyone. The short term tax revenues deferred by the City on
property improvements are insignificant when compared to the long
term direct and indirect economic benefits to our city.
While we may feel we have much to offer new businesses, the
bottom line to business is always the same; in selecting San
Marcos it must be a good business decision! The numbers must
work to make it a successful enterprise.
Thank you for your continued leadership and committment to
improve the economic climate of our city and the well being of
all our citizens.
Sincerely,
~
<..-. . . i . /"'".
{/ .ç>.,-~ ~ C" 7/L/ ~~
Janace C.
