119 RESOLUTION 1990- 107 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIl.. OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AFFIRMING THE CITY'S OPPOSITION TO THE PROPOSED DEMOLITION OF SAN MARCOS (CARROLL) HALL ON THE WEST CAMPUS OF SOUTHWEST TEXAS STATE UNIVERSITY; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of San Marcos supports the preservation of the historical heritage of the City, Southwest Texas state University and Hays County; and, WHEREAS, San Marcos (Carroll) Hall on the West Campus of Southwest Texas State University has been proposed for demolition by the Board of Regents of the Texas State University System; and, WHEREAS, San Marcos (Carroll) Hall proudly bears a Texas Historical Medallion as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark structure; and, WHEREAS, the City Council, in a Resolution dated August 13, 1990, previously expressed its opposition to the proposed demolition of San Marcos (Carroll) Hall; and, WHEREAS, the Hays County Historical Commission, the County of Hays, and the Heritage Association of San Marcos are prepared to initiate litigation in order to obtain an injunction against the proposed demolition; and, WHEREAS, the City Council has declined to participate in such litigation, but desires to express the continued opposition of the City to the proposed demolition; ~ow, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: PART 1. That the City of San Marcos hereby affirms its opposition to the proposed demolition of San Marcos (Carroll) Hall on the West Campus of Southwest Texas State University. PART 2.
