Martinez, Director'm '1- 1"17 .
Planning and Development Services
SUBJECT: Certified Local Government Grant
Amendment #1
DATE: November 6, 1990
************************************************************
The City of San Marcos Historic Preservation Commission is
in the process of implementing the prestigious certified
Local Government (C.L.G.) Grant. In August of this year the
Historic Preservation Commission was notified that
additional funds were available from the Texas Historical
Commission for those governments that have been granted
monies for 1990 fiscal year. The Historic preservation
Commission applied for and received $1000.00 to be applied
to the cost of implementing this year's program. We were
initially award $3,700, and an additional $1,000 under
Amendment #1 for a total of $4,700. The ~ Marcos
has already approved matching funds for, and woufã' 3)9()()~
need to match an additional $1,000 to secure the total
grant. This is the same commitment the city was required to
make last year when the city was awarded the initial grant.
The Historic Preservation Commission expressed an interest
in acquiring interpretive plaques that included site
specific information rather than generic plaques same.
Additionally, there are many sites that building plaques
would not be readable from the sidewalk, therefore, poles
would be required to mount the plaques in the street right-
of-way.
The original application did not include poles or site
specific plaques. Since the extra funds were available the
commission applied for the additional funds to accomplish
the goals set out by the commission.
City Hall. 630 East Hopkins.
