Chief Examiner for the San Marcos
area, and as a high school guidance counselor, I am
writing in support of your efforts to provide G.E.D.
preparationclasses at the San Marcos Library. I have
been examining students who wish to achieve their G.E.D.
for two years. It is truly inspiring to see men and women
who wish to have a chance to revamp their lives by
acquiring the G.E.D. credential.
Most adults wishing to acquire their G,E.D. certifi-
cate must have tutoring in order to have any possibility
of passing the test. This is largely due to the fact that
for most of them, many years have passed since they have
had any formal instruction. Another scenario is that they
never progressed beyond the elementary level of instruction
and simply do not have the skil,ls necessary. The inspiring
element is that most do succeed after tutoring.
The beauty of the library program is its flexibility
and the fact that there is no cost involved. With working
people, or people with families, flexibility is essential.
With people trying to better themselves, the no cost feature
is also essential.
I am totally in support of maintaining G.E,D. preparation
at the library.
Sincerely,
~~
Ann Jeanet~e Wright
G.E.D, Chief Examiner
San Marcos Area
