<br /> 10 <br /> PROPOSED REWORDING OF SECTIONS OF THE <br /> SAN YillRCOS CITY CHARTER <br /> RECOMMENDED FOR AMEND.f'.1ENT <br />Sec. 3.01. Number, selection and term. <br /> The legislative and governing body of the City shall consist <br />of seven (7) Council Members and shall be known as the "City <br />Council of San Marcos." <br /> (a) The members of the City Council shall be elected <br /> from the City at large, and each Council Member <br /> shall be elected to occupy a place on the Counci¡ <br /> such places being numbered and designated 1, 2, 3, <br /> 4, 5, 6 and Mayor. <br /> (b) Each Council Member for places 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and <br /> 6 shall hold office for a period of three (3) <br /> years, staggered so that two (2) members shall be <br /> elected to a regular term each year. The Council <br /> Member elected to the place of Mayor shall hold <br /> office for a period of two (2) years. <br />Sec. 3.04. Compensation. <br /> Members of the City Council shall serve without payor compensa- <br />tion; provided, however, that they shall be entitled to all <br />necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their official <br />duties. Beginning with the annual City Budget for the fiscal <br />year 1983-1984, there shall be provided in each annual City <br />Budget an amount not to exceed six thousand dollars ($6,000) for <br />the expenses of the Mayor and three thousand six hundred dollars <br />($3,600) for the expenses of each Council Member excluding the <br />Hayor. The Mayor and members of the City Council shall be reimbursed <br />from the amounts so provided for in the annual City Budget for <br />their actual official City business expenses. <br />Sec. 3.05. Mayor and Mayor pro tempore. <br /> The nayor shall preside at all meetings of the Council and <br />shall be recognized as head of the city government for all ceremonial <br />purposes, for the purpose of receiving service of civil process, <br />for military purposes, and as principal liaison between Council <br />Members and the City Manager.
