<br />RESOLUTION 1988-103R <br /> <br />88 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE IMPROVEMENT OF LOOP 82, <br />THE REALIGNMENT OF POST ROAD AT LOOP 82 AND THE <br />SIGNALIZATION OF THAT INTERSECTION, ASSURING THE <br />PARTICIPATION OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS IN THE PROJECT <br />AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the City of San Marcos to secure <br />certain improvements to Loop 82, namely enlarging it from a two lane <br />roadway to a five lane roadway between I.H. 35 and Bugg Lane; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, such improvements will include the realignment of the <br />intersection of Post Road and Loop 82; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, said project will include, also, the signalization of <br />the Post Road and Loop 82 intersection; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the realignment of the intersection of Post Road with <br />Loop 82 will provide for enhanced access control of the Southwest Texas <br />State University parking lot, thus reducing the need for law <br />enforcement during special events; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the aforesaid realignment will enhance the safety of <br />school bus traffic at the intersection of Post Road and Loop 82; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the aforesaid project, <br />progression of traffic along Loop 82; <br /> <br />will <br /> <br />enhance <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />orderly <br /> <br />WHEREAS, planning for this project has included representatives <br />from the Hays County Transporation Safety Committee, the San Marcos <br />Chamber of Commerce, Aquarena Springs and the City of San Marcos, <br />resulting in general agreement between these entities concerning the <br />proposed design; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br />IT <br /> <br />RESO LVED <br /> <br />BY <br /> <br />THE <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br /> <br />PART 1. That the City of San Marcos supports the enlargement of <br />Loop 82 from I.H. 35 to Bugg Lane from a two lane roadway to a five <br />lane roadway which will provide two lanes in each direction plus a <br />center left turn lane. <br /> <br />PART 2. That the City of San Marcos supports the realignment of <br />Post Road and Loop 82 so that Post Road intersects Loop 82 to the east <br />of the present intersection, across from the driveway to the Southwest <br />Texas State University stadium parking lot. <br /> <br />PART 3. That the City of San Marcos requests the State Department <br />of Highways and Public Transportation to construct the above-noted <br />improvements, including the signalization of Post Road and Loop 82. <br /> <br />PART 4. That the City of San Marcos agrees to obtain the <br />necessary right-of-way for the realignment of Post Road and Loop 82 and <br />to that end will negotiate with Southwest Texas State University and <br />other landowners to obtain the necessary right-of-way for the project. <br />The City Manager and the City Attorney, or their designees, are <br />directed to begin the negotiations necessary to acquire the <br />right-of-way needed for this project. <br /> <br />PART 5.
