RESOLUTION NO. 2007-170 R <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SAN MARCOS, TEXAS SUPPORTING LEGISLATIVE <br />ACTION TO CREATE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS AND <br />PROGRAMS AND TO PROVIDE FUNDING FOR WATER <br />CONSERVATION. <br />WHEREAS, fresh, potable water is essential for the health and safety of all <br />Texans; and, <br />WHEREAS, fresh potable water is essential for the economic viability of the <br />State; and <br />WHEREAS, the supply of fresh water, like most resources, is finite; and <br />WHEREAS, Texans currently use 16.5 million acre-feet of water per year, with <br />95% of that water being provided by nine aquifers; and, <br />WHEREAS, increased growth in the State has strained, and will continue to <br />strain, the State's supply of fresh water; and, <br />WHEREAS in the next 25 years the fastest users of ground water will be <br />municipalities; and, <br />WHEREAS conservation of water is essential for the continued vibrant economy <br />in Texas. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The City Council of the City of San Marcos supports legislative action <br />that would create laws, programs, and funding in support of state-wide water <br />conservation efforts. <br />PART 2.
