Hopkins - Budget Workshop <br /> I. Call To Order <br /> With a quorum present, the budget workshop of the San Marcos City Council <br /> was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Thomaides at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, July <br /> 21, 2016 in the City Council Chambers, 630 E. Hopkins, San Marcos, Texas <br /> 78666. <br /> II. Roll Call <br /> Mayor Guerrero was absent due to business related travel. <br /> Present: 6- Mayor Pro-Tem John Thomaides, Council Member Jude Prather, Deputy Mayor <br /> Pro Tern Lisa Prewitt, Council Member Jane Hughson, Council Member Melissa <br /> Derrick and Council Member Scott Gregson <br /> Absent: 1 - Mayor Daniel Guerrero <br /> 1. Receive a Staff presentation and hold discussion regarding the preliminary Fiscal <br /> Year 2016-2017 Budget, and provide direction to Staff. <br /> Steve Parker, Assistant City Manager/CFO,introduced Fire Chief Les <br /> Stephens to provide an update to the Council regarding Fire Recovery as <br /> requested on July 20, 2016. <br /> Chief Stephens provided an update on the Fire Recovery process and feels that <br /> the time and energy that it takes to process a claim is no longer is making it <br /> viable. He stated that this has created some unintended consequences and <br /> hardships on individuals. <br /> Discussion was held about the contract with the vendor and the notice required <br /> to terminate. <br /> Staff will provide follow-up information on if collection agencies still attempt to <br /> collect if we do away with this. <br /> Council consensus was to bring back the ordinance to cease the fire recovery <br /> practice. <br /> Heather Huribert, Director of Finance, continued review of the hotel-motel <br /> fund reserves. Jared Miller, City Manager, reviewed the additional <br /> hotel-motel fund request recommendations. <br /> City of San Marcos Page 1 <br />
