ir. crit/ or <br />SANS MARCOS <br />Tuesday, August 17, 2021 <br />City of San Marcos <br />Meeting Minutes <br />City Council <br />3:00 PM <br />630 East Hopkins <br />San Marcos, TX 78666 <br />City Council Chambers/Virtual <br />This meeting was held using conferencing software due to COVID-19 rules. <br />I. Call To Order <br />With a quorum present, the work session of the San Marcos City Council was <br />called to order by Mayor Hughson at 3:02 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2021. The <br />meeting was held online and in person. <br />II. Roll Call <br />Present: 7 - Mayor Pro Tem Melissa Derrick, Mayor Jane Hughson, Council Member Maxfield <br />Baker, Council Member Saul Gonzales, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Shane Scott, <br />Council Member Alyssa Garza and Council Member Mark Gleason <br />PRESENTATIONS <br />Receive a Staff presentation and hold discussion on Community Broadband and provide <br />direction to the City Manager. <br />Bert Lumbreras, City Manager, provided an introduction of the presentation <br />that will discuss how the City can further assist the community by providing <br />affordable, accessible and reliable internet services. Council has discussed <br />providing broadband as a utility for the citizens of San Marcos, and a memo <br />was provided earlier this summer that provided much of the background for <br />today's presentation. Staff has researched and compiled information related to <br />past initiatives to connect City facilities with fiber as well as outlining the <br />broadband providers in San Marcos. <br />Mr. Lumbreras introduced Carl Stewart, Assistant Director of Information <br />Technology, who will provide the presentation. <br />Carl Stewart, Assistant Director of Information Technology, provided a <br />presentation related to community broadband services that would provide <br />citizens with affordable, accessible and reliable internet services. Mr. Stewart <br />stated that broadband is the technology of transmitting data in a continuous <br />flow over a wired or wireless internet connection.
