Call To Order <br />With a quorum present, the Regular Meeting of the San Marcos City Council <br />was called to order by Mayor Hughson at 6:02 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, <br />2021. The meeting was held in-person and online. <br />II. Roll Call <br />Present: 7 - Mayor Pro Tem Melissa Derrick, Mayor Jane Hughson, Council Member Maxfield <br />Baker, Council Member Saul Gonzales, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Shane Scott, <br />Council Member Alyssa Garza and Council Member Mark Gleason <br />111, Invocation <br />Pastor J.D. Elshoff, from First Baptist Church provided this evening's <br />invocation. <br />IV. Pledges of Allegiance - United States and Texas <br />Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Scott led the assembly in the Pledges of Allegiance. <br />V. 30 Minute Citizen Comment Period <br />Bucky Couch, spoke in favor of an increase on the tax rate and would like to <br />increase the rate to the $.6030 from the proposed $.5930. He stated as a <br />member of the Chiefs Advisory Panel, he has seen and heard first-hand the <br />struggles that the San Marcos Police Department endures in trying to keep the <br />community safe with a force of sworn and non -sworn staff that has not kept <br />pace with the growth of San Marcos. He mentioned as a citizen, <br />business -owner, and taxpayer, the additional one cent increase can make a <br />measurable difference in improving the overall quality of life of the community <br />and would demonstrate to first -responders your commitment to support their <br />tireless efforts. <br />Carina Boston Pinales, spoke in favor of the renewal of Greater San Marcos <br />City of San Marcos Page 1 <br />
