<br />NO. 65 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, IN OBSERVANCE <br />OF THE TENTH ANNUAL RE~UBLIC OF TEXAS <br />CHILYMPIAD <br /> <br />39 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the lOth Annual Republic of Texas Chilympiad will be <br />celebrated in San Marcos beginning on Thursday, <br />September thirteenth, and continuing through Sunday, <br />September sixteenth, giving all true Texans, adopted <br />sons of Texas, and those who wish they were Texans <br />the opportunity to indulge their gustatorial desires <br />with the best chili in the entire United States: and, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, not only will this festival make it possible that the <br />yearnings of gourmands be satisfied, it will also give <br />gourmet cooks the opportunity to vie with one another <br />for the honor of preparing the tastiest, most mouth- <br />watering pottage brewed since Jacob gave his birthright <br />to Esau for just such a succulent dish: and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the 1979 Chilympiad will adhere to the same lofty goals <br />which led the citizens of thriving and forward-looking <br />San Marcos to originate the festival; the promotion and <br />further development of the native delicacy of chili <br />throughout our State: the preservation of its legends and <br />history: the creation and promotion of activities on <br />behalf of chili lovers and the promotion of wider usage <br />of chili among the peoples of the world: the furtherance <br />of research into outstanding chili recipes and the record- <br />ing of these recipes for posterity: the naming of a Texas <br />Chili Champion to compete on the International grounds of <br />the Hays County Civic Center in San Marcos; and, finally, <br />the provision of an arena affording a festive and relaxing <br />atmosphere for congenial people to enjoy the pleasure of <br />old-fashioned homecooked foods and cooling, refreshing <br />drinks; and, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />WHEREAS, participants in the event will erect~their unique chili <br />campsites on Civic Center grounds: there will be music <br />and dancing, a parade in downtown San Marcos, an Arts and <br />Crafts show, an Old Fiddlers Contest, Tractor Pull, <br />Beauty Contest, chili cooking and judging, and an auction <br />of the State Grand Champion Pot of Chili: and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of San Marcos wish to <br />congratulate the sponsors and committees of theChilympiad <br />and extend to them good wishes as they celebrate the <br />lOth Annual Republic of Texas Chilympiad State Chili <br />Cook-Offs: now, therefore,. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />PART 1. That members of this Body commend to all the people of <br />Texas and visitors to the Lone Star State the lOth Annual <br />Republic of Texas Chilympiad State Cook-Off as an out- <br />standing festival which should be visited by every <br />individual whose taste buds tingle at the thought of the <br />treat that is real, honest-to-goodness, pure unadulterated <br />Championship Caliber, Texas Chili: and, <br /> <br />PART 2. <br /> <br />That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared <br />for the RepUblic of Texas Chilympiad State Cook-Off, to <br />be delivered to the General Chairman, Bill Taylor, <br />as a testimonial to him, and to the sponsors of the <br />lOth Annual Republic of Texas Chilympiad State Cook- <br />Off, that members of this Body hold each and every- <br />one in high esteem for originating and carrying forward <br />this gala Texas festival. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />L_ <br />
