• ORDINANCE NO. 2011 -25 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 2, ARTICLE 3, DIVISION <br />21 BY CHANGING THE REPORTING STRUCTURE OF THE <br />VETERANS AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMITTEE, PROVIDING, <br />CHANGING THE COMPOSITION OF THE BOARD; AND <br />INCLUDING PROCEDURAL PROVISIONS <br />RECITALS: <br />The City of San Marcos recognizes the sacrifices made by its many war veterans. <br />2. The City further recognizes the service and value to the community that has been <br />exhibited by its war veterans. <br />3 The City Council wishes to have the Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee act in <br />an advisory capacity to the City Council on programs, policies and activities that are unique to <br />veterans and important to the overall fabric of the community. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />• SECTION 1. Chapter 2 Sections 2.370.20 and 2.370.21 f t <br />p o he San Marcos City Code are <br />amended as follows (underlining indicates added text, strileethfeiigh indicates deleted text): <br />Sec. 2.370.20. Created; composition; terms; officers. <br />(a) The veterans affairs advisory committee is created and shall be composed of seven <br />members appointed by the city council, the Hays County Veterans Resources Officer, and <br />the Texas State University Associated Student Government Veterans Liason. <br />(b) The city council will endeavor to appoint five 5 persons to the committee who are <br />residents of San Marcos or its extraterritorial jurisdiction and are veterans, two (2) <br />persons who are the spouses or surviving spouses of veterans, collectively representing <br />the various war eras and veterans organizations existing within San Marcos and its <br />extraterritorial jurisdiction. All members of the committee shall be voting members. <br />(c) The members of the commission are appointed for staggered three -year terms. <br />Sec. 2.370.21. General powers and duties. <br />• (a) The veterans affairs advisory committee will act in an advisory capacity to the City <br />Council on issues that are unique to veterans within San Marcos and its extraterritorial <br />jurisdiction. <br />
