127 ORDINANCE NO. 1983-6 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING SEC- TION 2-31 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF SAID CITY TO PKESCRIBE THE NUMBER OF POSITIONS IN EACH CLASSIFICATION OF POLICE- MEN AND FIREMEN EMPLOYED BY THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Section 2-31 of the Code of Ordinances, City of San Marcos, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 2-31. Job classification and salary. There is hereby prescribed the following number of positions for each classification in the police and fire departments of the City of San Marcos, Texas: Classification Number of positions Authorized POLICE DEPARTMENT Police Trainee * Police Officer 17 Corporal 8 Police Sergeant 4 Police Lieutenant 2 FIRE DEPARTMENT Fire Trainee * Firefighter 15 Fire Lieutenant 6 Fire Captain 3 *The number of Police Trainees and Fire Trainees cannot be predicted exactly because the number will depend on the number of staffed Police Officers and Firefighters. In no event, however, will the combined total of Police Trainees and Police Officers ever exceed 21 persons at anyone time and in no event will the combined total of Fire Trainees and Firefighters ever exceed 15 persons at anyone time. SECTION 2. That the importance of this Ordinance creates an emergency and an imperative purpose necessary that the provisions of the charter requiring that ordinances shall be read at three separate meetings and that no ordinance shall become effective until the expiration of ten (10) days follow- ing the date of its final passage be suspended, and these provisions are hereby suspended, and this Ordinance shall take
