RESOLUTION 2018-15R
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS,
TEXAS FINDING A POLICE VEHICLE TO BE SURPLUS AND OF NO
FURTHER VALUE TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT; AUTHORIZING THE
CITY TO DONATE THE POLICE VEHICLE TO SAVING A HERO'S PLACE,
INC.; FINDING THAT SUCH CONVEYANCE SERVES THE PUBLIC PURPOSE
OF HONORING LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS KILLED IN THE LINE OF
DUTY; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO
EXECUTE A DONATION AGREEMENT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
RECITALS:
1. The City's Police Department possesses a police vehicle that has reached the end of
its useful life for law enforcement purposes and is therefore declared surplus.
2. Saving a Hero's Place, Inc. is a tax-exempt non-profit organization whose mission it is
to build wood honor chairs to be placed in roll call or briefing rooms of police departments that
have lost one of their members in the line of duty to remind the shift mates that the officer is
always with them as they embark on their daily journey to protect their communities.
3. The public purpose of Saving a Hero's Place, Inc.'s mission includes raising public
awareness of the sacrifices made by members of law enforcement and their families and the
magnitude of the loss to law enforcement when one of their members is killed in the line of duty.
4. Saving a Hero's Place, Inc. is currently building a custom honor chair that will be on
display at the San Marcos Police Department in memory of Officer Ken Copeland who was
tragically killed in the line of duty serving the citizens of San Marcos on December 4,2017.
5. Saving a Hero's Place, Inc. does not have a vehicle to transport the honor chairs it
donates to law enforcement agencies across the nation and will greatly benefit from the donation
of the police vehicle by the City of San Marcos.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS,
TEXAS:
PART 1. The City Council finds and determines that a police vehicle, no longer in use
by the City Police Department, is surplus and of no value to the City of San Marcos.
PART 2. The City is authorized to donate this police vehicle to Save a Hero's Chair,
Inc.
r I
