Rodney Cobb <br /> <br />Also Present: Sarah Alvarez, Francis Serna, Collette Duran, Sherri <br />Russell, Merlin Evans, George VonderLippe, Gwen Smith, Phil Neighbors, Torn <br />Wassenich, Ted Breihan, Fraye Stokes, Mike Dishman, John Tatsch, John <br />McBride, William DeSoto and others. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced the citizen comment period. (1) John Thomaides <br />stated a group of neighborhood leaders are present and want to make <br />comments during the discussion regarding the MLK/Heritage Neighborhood <br />traffic proposal. Mr. Thomaides also asked if the tax abatement could be <br />considered for more readings before adoption to allow additional time for <br />questions to be answered. He also asked if it was possible for all <br />businesses to apply for abatements or was it just for large companies. <br />(2) Ted Breihan stated he had been advised the sidewalk building program <br />was under the direction of the Planning Department and did not quite <br />understand why Public Works was not in charge of the sidewalk program, and <br />felt the City did not need two departments doing Public Works projects. <br />He noted the need for sidewalks on Chestnut because the width of the <br />street is narrow. Mr. Breihan stated in regard to a public hearing and <br />Ordinance clarifying the definition of church on this agenda, there are <br />churches in the downtown business district that have made an investment to <br />provide a clean place for youth activities. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration approval of one appointment to the <br />Cemetery Commission. Mr. Cox moved to appoint Mildred Bechtol, which <br />passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration approval of one appointment to <br />complete a vacancy on the Economic Development Council. Mr. Moseley moved <br />to appoint Mayor Chiu, which passed unanimously. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration approval of four appointments to <br />the Zoning Board of Adjustments and Appeals. Ms. Hughson moved for <br />reappointment of Teresa Hobby and Mr. Moseley moved for appointment of Bob <br />Walch, which passed unanimously. The remaining two appointments will be <br />rescheduled. <br /> <br />Mayor Chiu introduced for consideration approval of an appointment to <br />complete a vacancy on the Development Ordinance Review Task Force. Mayor <br />Chiu stated since this temporary task force has almost completed its work, <br />
