ORDINANCE NO. 2025-08 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS AMENDING SECTION 2.231 OF THE SAN MARCOS CITY CODE TO ADJUST THE SCHEDULE OF STAGGERED THREE YEAR TERMS FOR MEMBERS OF THE HUMAN SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF CONFLICTING PROVISIONS; PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 2.231 of the San Marcos City Code is hereby amended to read as set forth below.Added text is indicated by underlining.Deleted text is indicated by strikethroughs. See. 2.231. Established; appointment of members; organization. (a) There is established the human services advisory board. The board consists of eight citizens of the city, appointed by the city council. Seven members will be voting members and the eighth member will be a non-voting member, and will be a person with a degree in social work with experience in social service administration. All members will be committed to the development and enhancement of human services in the city. At the first regular meeting of the human services advisory board following the adoption of this ordinance, the staff liaison for the board shall draw lots to determine which members shall serve for one, two or three years from March 2025. SECTION 3. If any word,phrase, clause, sentence, or paragraph of this ordinance is held to be unconstitutional or invalid by a court of competent jurisdiction, the other provisions of this ordinance will continue in force if they can be given effect without the invalid portion. SECTION 4.All ordinances and resolution or parts of ordinances or resolutions in conflict with this ordinance are repealed. SECTION 5. This ordinance shall become effective upon adoption on second reading.
