Paul Powell, Bill Germer, jr., <br />J.W.Rinn, John Stokes, Richard Stuart <br /> <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m. <br /> <br />The City Attorney explained the statutes governing sale of al- <br />coholic beverages. He said the zoning ordinance and ordinance <br />authorizing collection of occupation tax were already in effect. <br />For the present, he recommended that the Council con~ern itself <br />only with determining where liquor stores could be located~ <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced an ordinance and read it aloud. Caption is <br />as follows: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE MINIMUM DISTANCE FROM A <br />CHURCH, A PUBLIC SCHOOL, OR A PUBLIC HOSPITAL FOR THE <br />SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY <br /> <br />Dr. Craddock moved adoption of the ordinance. Mr. Flores seconded <br />the motion and on roll call, the following vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: Contreras, Craddock, Flores, Smith, Yarbrough, Zavesky <br />NAY: None <br /> <br />The Mayor declared the Ordinance Passed, Approved and Adopted. <br /> <br />The Rev. Paul Powell, pastor of First Baptist Church, asked if the <br />Council intended to reduce the hours during which liquor could be <br />sold in San Marcos. The Mayor replied that the City Attorney had <br />advised that, for the present, the City permit the same hours allowed <br />under the State statute. Mr. Smith said the Council would seriously <br />consider lowe~ing the hours, if, after trial, it seemed desirable. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Yarbrough introduced for discussion the urgent need for <br />attempting a solution to traffic congestion. before September. <br />lt was agreed that the Council should meet with the Chamber of <br />Commerce Traffic Committee before initiating action to improve the <br />flow of traffic in downtown San Marcos. <br /> <br />The Council adjourned at 1:40 p.m. <br />
