<br />SPECIAL MEETING HEW ON SEPTEMBER 5. 1957 <br /> <br />lS5 <br />7'9 <br /> <br />On this, the 5th day of September, at 4:00 o'clock P. M., the City Council <br />of the City of San Marcos, Texas, met in a regular meeting at the City Hall of <br />San Marcos, with the following members present and participating: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />w. M. Davis, Alderman <br />B. D. Hillburn, Alderman <br />Herman Korff, Alderman <br />H. W. Steakley, Alderman <br /> <br />others present werel <br /> <br />B. R. Fuller, City Manager <br />Carlyn Tatch, City Secretary, <br />Mr. Walter Buckner, San Marcos Record <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order and after roll call had been made the first <br />item for discussion was presented. All Council members were presented with a <br />list of the bids on the new Police car and was thoroughly examined by each Council <br />member. A discussion followed as to whether or not to buy the car with a standard <br />transmission or an automatic transmission. Mr, Hillburn then made a motion to buy <br />the low bid car, Standard transmission, 1957 Ford V-8, 2-door, 190 HP, from the <br />Jack Hughes Motors for $1,610.41. This motion was seconded by Mr. Steakley and <br />the following vote was tabulated: <br /> <br />w. M. Davis - No <br />B. D. Hillburn - Yes <br />Herman Korff - Yes <br />H. W. Steakley - Yes <br /> <br />Being that the majority ruled, the motion was carried and delivery of this <br />automobile will be made in approximately three weeks. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />At this time the matter of hiring a ~Parkette~ was brought before the Council <br />and two applications were submitted at this time and they werel <br /> <br />Mrs. Rose Kelley <br />Mrs. Frances M. Golden <br /> <br />It was unanimously decided that Mrs. Kelley should be accepted for the position <br />as .Parkette", with starting salary of $150.00 per month for the first three months <br />and $5.00 per month increase after 3 months. It was also decided to place Mr. Camp <br />in charge of meter operation, repair and replacement, and to also act as school <br />crossing guard at Souths ide School and that his salary is to be reduced from $275.00 <br />to $237.50 per month. <br /> <br />The City Manager then presented a map of the Highway Right-of-Way and informed <br />the Council that the Highway Department in Austin had instructed him that it would <br />be advisable to build a conduit across U. S. 81, South of the City Limits, for <br />future possible connections of water lines. He stated that the Highway Department <br />informed him that if this action would be taken immediately it was still possible <br />to install a conduit, however, if the City would wait until construction was <br />completed that there would be a considerable difference in expense.
