SPECIAL MEETING HEIR ON FEBRUARY 26, 1962 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Om the 28th day of February 1962, at 3z15 o~clock in the after- <br />noon, the Governing Body of the City of San Marcos, Texas, met in Special <br />Session in the City Hall, Mayor C. Reed <br />Guestsz Mrs Jerry Veidt <br />The Mayor called the meeting to order and explained the meeting <br />had been called,to discuss a question which had been raised regarding the <br />building previously designated as the polling place for Precinct 1] being <br />in that precinct. City Secretary George Reed presented a map which had been <br />prepared from records in the County Tax Assessor-Collector+s Office showing <br />the various precinct lines and which showed the building in question, known <br />as the Colored Recreational Center located at the northwest corner of Freder- <br />icksburg Street and Coma1 Street, .as being in Precinct ll. Alderman Ruiz pre- <br />sented a map showing that the building was not within the limits of the <br />precinct. In order that there, he no question that the polling place was located withir. <br />Precinct 11', Alderman Younger moved that the polling place be redesignated and <br />that it_be located at the Sutton Real Estate Office, 743 ,West San Antonio _ <br />Street and designated as the official Polling Place for Precinct 11. This <br />motion was seconded, by Alderman Ruiz and the motion, when put to vote, carried <br />with all members voting aye. Whereupon Mayor Allen declared the Polling place <br />officially changed. <br />The City Manager reported that the preliminary request for the <br />property,, declared surplus by the Federal Fish Hatchery, had been sent in <br />to GSA Real Property Division. He asked the Council-s permission to attempt <br />to obtain the property through the Parks Department in order to have it <br />designated as a perpetual park site. The Council agreed unaminously. <br />It was reported that the property bordering on the south side of <br />Cheatham Street belonging to Mrs. John Steffen might be for sale.
