Kennet~ Armke & others <br /> <br />The Mayor cal led the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Three representatives of Missouri-Pacific Railroad were <br />present to discuss the City'~ proposed railroad-crossing <br />safety ordinance. L.D. Henderson, as spokesman, stated <br />his line has seven crossings within the City Limits of <br />San Marcos, five of which are protected with safety devices. <br />The other two are not in heavy traffic lanes and are not <br />considered dangerous crossings. He said his company does <br />not feel the ordin~nce should be passed. Mr. Henderson set <br />forth the reasons and concluded wifh the statement: <br />"~e've come to the conclusion more and more that the matter <br />of safety at crossings is the public's obligation." <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The Mayor recognized~.C. Putsche, Superintendent of the <br />MKT Railroad. He stated his line is working with the State <br />Highway Department on a flasher on their Bugg Lane crossing. <br />He sa~d he met with the State Highway Enaineer July 19 <br />and effected a preliminary agreement. Material has been ordered <br />for a flasher north of.the depot (on Guadalupe) and wi I I be <br />installed. He warned that it might be as long as five months <br />before the flashers are actually installed. In answer to a <br />question, he stated there would be no signal on. Riverside <br />Drive crossing. M~. Putsche said the problem of accidents <br />at crossings exists al lover the MKTsystem, adding: "People <br />run into trains because they don't see them". He suggested <br />in~tall ing ~ street light at crossings, and/or STOP signs. <br />Alderman Damon moved that the rai Iroad-crossing safety ordinance <br />be tabled for the present. Alderman Frohseconded the motion <br />and on 1'0 II ca II, the fo II ow i ng vote was recorded: <br /> <br />AYE: <br />NAY: <br /> <br />Damon, Froh, Korff, Whittenberg <br />None <br /> <br />The Mayor deelared the motion carried. <br /> <br />Mr. Serur asked the City Manager to confer with LCRA about <br />installation of street I ights at rai Iroad crossings, and to <br />investigate the possibi lity of placing STOP signs at crossIngs. <br />
