SPECIAL MEETING ~F THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, JULY 30, 1968 Present: Mayor Ellis Serur I Councilmen: Ronald J. Dannelley Luciano H. Flores William C. Pool, Ph.D. Hollis W. Smith Jerry Zavesky City Manager City Secretary Richard G. Bean Dorothy O. Worrell Absent: Councilwoman Emmie Craddock, Ph.D. Visitors: Jim T. Brown, Jerri Veidt The Mayor called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. The Mayor introduced and read aloud a Resolution accepting a federal grant offer in the amount of $106,260.00. It is made a part of the Minutes. Councilman Dannelley moved approval of the Resolution. Councilman Zavesky seconded the motion , and on roll call, the following vote was recorded: I AYE: NAY: Dannelley, Flores; Pool, Serur, Smith, Zavesky None The Mayor declared the Resolution Passed and Approved. The Mayor read aloud a letter from Greg Cortez, jr., requesting that the City provide public bus transportation. By common consent it was decided that the Mayor write Mr. Cortez, thank him for the suggestion, and tell him the matter had been brought to the Council for consideration.' The Mayor reported that the terms of Jack Harper, Herbert East- wood and J.O. Paine as members of the Housing Authority Board were expiring. Mr. Serur said he had contacted them, and all were willing to serve another term. Inasmuch as new public housing units will soon be under construction, the Mayor recommend- ed that the members be reappointed. Councilman Zavesky moved that Mr. Harper, ~~. Eastwood and Mr. Paine be reappointed to ~he Housing Authority Board. Couricilman Smith seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. I Jim Brown, Executive Director of the Urban Renewal Agency, came before the Council to inform members that the Urban Renewal law has been changed, and it is no longer necessary to hold a public hearing on the General Neighborhood Renewal Plan. He said the separate projects, such as the River Project, and "El Molino" would be held at the proper time in their development. The Council dis- cussed postponing or cancelling the public hearing which had already been called for August 8. Mr. Brown said there were some conflicts with other community events; the Mayor reported a conflict in appointments. After further discussion, Mr. Flores moved rati- fication of 6:00 p.m., Thursday, August 8, 1968, City Recreation Hall, as the time and place of the meeting, as published and reported in the press.
