<br />171 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1977-6-R <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS, CALLING THE ATTENTION OF THE PUBLIC TO THE DANGERS <br />AND HAZARDS OF RIDING BICYCLES ON PUBLIC SIDEWALKS, ESPECIALLY <br />IN THE AREA OF THE CENTHAL BUSINESS DISTRICT; REMINDING BICYCLE <br />RIDERS THAT A CITY ORDINANCE IS IN EFFECT PROHIBITING SUCH <br />ACTIVITIES AND CALLING FOR A FINE OF $1.00 UP TO $200.00 IN <br />THE MUNICIPAL COURT; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO PLACE <br />SIGNS WHERE NEEDED TO ALERT BICYCLE RIDERS TO THE DANGERS AND <br />CONSEQUENCES. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos is concerned about recent <br /> <br />reports of potential injury to bicycle riders and pedestrians resulting from the <br /> <br />operation of bicycles on sidewalks in the Central Business District; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a City ordinance prohibits bicycle riding on public sidewalks and <br /> <br />provides for a maximum fine of $200.00 in Municipal Court; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of San Marcos recognizes that many citizens, <br /> <br />especially junior citizens and their parents, may not be aware of the dangers and <br /> <br />penalties involved in such activities; now, therfore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Part 1. That the City Manager of the City of San Marcos be and is hereby authorized <br /> <br />to have signs placed where needed to alert bicycle riders of dangers and penalties <br /> <br />which can result from operating bicycles on public sidewalks. <br /> <br />Part 2. That the public be informed as to the matters contained herein. <br /> <br />Part 3.
