<br />219" " <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1977-22-R <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SAN MARCOS, TEXAS STATING OPPOSITION TO THE PRO- <br />VISIONS OF SENATE BILL NO. 412 AND HOUSE BILL NO, <br />770; AND INSTRUCTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ADVISE ALL <br />RESPECTIVE MEMBERS OF THE LEGISLATURE OF THE ACTION <br />OF THIS COUNCIL AND REGUEST THEIR SUPPORT IN THE <br />DEFEAT OF THIS LEGISLATION. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there has been introduced into the legislature companion bills <br />identified as Senate Bill No. 412 and House Bill No. 770 known as "The <br />Ready Mixed Concete Vehicle Weight Improvement Bill" ;and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this legislation, supported by the Texas Aggregates and Concrete <br />Association, would increase the allowable load limits for ready mixed concrete <br />trucks substantially above the present legal limits; and; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, more than 80 per cent of the total mileage of streets within the <br />city are light-duty residential streets; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed increased limits would create substantial damage and <br />deterioration to the existing street system requiring much heavier expenditures <br />for street maintenance and reconstruction; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, such increased load limits would require further that all new pavements <br />be designed to thicker s'ections and higher standards than at present; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, these increased costs of street maintenance, reconstruction, and ne'w <br />construction would be borne by the taxpayers and the motoring public of thiE, <br />state for the benefit of a few; now, therefore, <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />Part 1. That this Council is in opposition to the provisions of Senate <br />Bill No. 412 and House Bill No. 770. <br /> <br />Part 2. That the City Manager is instructed to advise all respective members <br />of the legislature of the action of this Council and request their support <br />in the defeat of this legislation. <br /> <br />Part 3.
