<br />190 <br /> <br />RES~LUTION NO. 1975-l4-R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE CREATION OF A <br />COMMISSION TO PROVIDE FOR REGULATION, BY THE <br />STATE OF TEXAS, OF ALL UTILITY COMPANIES 9PERATING <br />WITHIN THIS STATE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the forty-nine other states within the United States of America have <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />provided for some regulation of intrastate utilities at the state level; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, utilities in the unincorporated areas of the State of, Texas and long <br /> <br />distance telephone rates within this great state are totally unregulated; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the overwhelming majority of incorporated cities in Texas lack the <br /> <br />expertise and the resources to regulate utilities or to engage in the frequent <br /> <br />litigation involved in rate regulation; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, utility firms in Texas, with rare exceptions, represent a monopoly <br /> <br />of their particular service in their areas of operation, thereby placing their <br /> <br />subscribers at their mercy: now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />That the Council supports the creation of a commission to provide for regulation, <br /> <br />by the State of Texas, of all utility companies operating within this state; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the elected officials of this state be urged to <br /> <br />support this legislation. <br /> <br />PASSED AND APPROVED on this the <br /> <br />24~t// ay of March, 1975. <br />'~ ., f() <br />, ~.vl <br /> <br />I Emmie Craddock <br />Mayor <br /> <br />------ <br /> <br />Zb <br /> <br /> <br />I Doriss Hambrick <br />City Secretary <br /> <br /> <br />-:J;;:~ <br /> <br />Torn Akins <br />City Attorney <br />
