130 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION /981-24R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING <br />THE TEXAS TRIANGLE CORRIDOR WHICH WOULD PRO- <br />VIDE PASSENGER RAIL TRANSPORTATION LINKING <br />THE CITIES OF AND BETWEEN FORT WORTH, DALLAS, <br />HOUSTON AND SAN ANTONIO AND DECLARING AN EFFEC- <br />TIVE DATE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United States Congress mandated through <br />Public Law 96-254 a joint study by Amtrak 'and the Department <br />of Transportation to determine the potential for rail passenger <br />corridors in the nation; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the National League of Cities has endorsed the <br />revitalization of the Nation's rail passenger system and <br />emerging corridor concept; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the development of the Texas Triangle Corridor <br />would provide economic, employment, and energy-efficient travel <br />benefits in Texas; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, states and cities must express their commitment <br />to rail passenger service; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Texas House Bill 990 allows the State of Texas <br />to participate in federal 403(b) funding for the expansion of <br />intrastate rail passenger service; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Texas House Bill 991 gives the Texas Railroad <br />Commission authority to review speed limits on t~.acks within <br />the State of Texas; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS: <br /> <br /> PART 1. That the City of San Marcos, Texas in its commit- <br />ment to rail passenger service endorses and supports the Texas <br />Triangle Corridor which would provide passenger rail service <br />linking the cities of and between Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston <br />and San Antonio, <br /> <br /> PART 2. That the City of San Marcos, Texas, endorses <br />the passage of House Bill 990 and House Bill 991. <br /> <br /> PART 3. That a certified copy of this resolution be <br />forwarded to the Office of the Govenor and to Represenative <br />Don Rains and Senator Lloyd Doggett of the Texas Legislature. <br /> <br /> PART 4.
