RESOLUTION NO. 2009-23R <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, CONFIRMING THE <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPOINTMENT OF ROSEMARY <br />SUNIGA AND CHERYL McWILLIAMS-LEE TO THE <br />CITY OF SAN MARCOS FIRE FIGHTERS' AND <br />POLICE OFFICERS' CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION; <br />AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />RECITALS <br />1. Pursuant to an election, the City of San Marcos adopted the fire fighters' and <br />police officers' civil service law, now embodied in Chapter 143 of the Texas <br />Local Government Code, whose purpose is to "secure efficient fire and police <br />departments composed of capable personnel who are free from political influence <br />and who have permanent tenure as public servants." <br />2. Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code requires the appointment of a <br />civil service commission to administer the civil service law in accordance with the <br />purpose stated by the Texas Legislature. <br />3. A civil service commission consists of three members appointed by the <br />municipality's chief executive officer and confirmed by the municipal governing <br />body. <br />4. City Manager Rick Menchaca has requested the San Marcos City Council to <br />confirm his appointment of Rosemary Suniga and Cheryl McWilliams-Lee to the <br />San Marcos Fire Fighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service Commission. <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS: <br />PART 1. The San Marcos City Council hereby affirms the City Manager's appointment <br />of Rosemary Suniga and Cheryl McWilliams-Lee to the City of San Marcos Fire <br />Fighters' and Police Officers' Civil Service Commission. <br />PART 2. Rosemary Suniga's term shall expire on February 3, 2010. Cheryl <br />McWilliams-Lee's term shall expire on February 3, 2011. <br />This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage. <br />0
