RESOLUTION 1993- 7 R <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE PROPOSED <br />EXPANSION OF THE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN <br />~YLE OPERATED BY THE WACKENHUT CORRECTIONAL <br />CORPORATION; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of San Marcos support the efforts of <br />their State officials to ensure that the criminal justice system is <br />of sufficient size to facilitate punishment and rehabilitation; <br />and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of the neighboring City of Kyle have <br />participated in these efforts by providing for the locating of a <br />500 bed secure correctional facility in their community at 701 <br />South IH-35, operated by the Wackenhut Corrections Corporation for <br />the Texas Department of Criminal Justice; and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the 72nd Texas Legislature passed House Bill 93 <br />amending Chapter 495 of the Government Code allowing for the <br />expansion of 500 bed facilities to 1,000 beds; and~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the County of Hays and City of Kyle have adopted <br />resolutions supporting this proposed expansion at the Kyle <br />facility, and the City Council wishes to express similar support; <br />and, <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Wackenhut Corrections 'Corporation and its <br />employees have exhibited high professional standards in the <br />operation of the correctional facility in Kyle; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br /> <br /> PART 1. That the City Council supports the expansion of this <br />correctional facility at Kyle to accommodate an average daily <br />population of one thousand (1,000) inmates, and/or the operation of <br />a separate facility with an average daily population of one <br />thousand (1,000) inmates to be operated by the Wackenhut <br />Corrections Corporation. <br /> <br /> PART 2.
