RESOLUTION 1993- 7 R A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, SUPPORTING THE PROPOSED EXPANSION OF THE CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN ~YLE OPERATED BY THE WACKENHUT CORRECTIONAL CORPORATION; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the citizens of San Marcos support the efforts of their State officials to ensure that the criminal justice system is of sufficient size to facilitate punishment and rehabilitation; and, WHEREAS, the citizens of the neighboring City of Kyle have participated in these efforts by providing for the locating of a 500 bed secure correctional facility in their community at 701 South IH-35, operated by the Wackenhut Corrections Corporation for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice; and, WHEREAS, the 72nd Texas Legislature passed House Bill 93 amending Chapter 495 of the Government Code allowing for the expansion of 500 bed facilities to 1,000 beds; and~ WHEREAS, the County of Hays and City of Kyle have adopted resolutions supporting this proposed expansion at the Kyle facility, and the City Council wishes to express similar support; and, WHEREAS, the Wackenhut Corrections 'Corporation and its employees have exhibited high professional standards in the operation of the correctional facility in Kyle; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: PART 1. That the City Council supports the expansion of this correctional facility at Kyle to accommodate an average daily population of one thousand (1,000) inmates, and/or the operation of a separate facility with an average daily population of one thousand (1,000) inmates to be operated by the Wackenhut Corrections Corporation.
