12 ORDINANCE 1989-20 <::r" -- AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 13-1/2 OF THE CODE ORDINANCES OF SAID CITY TO ADOPT THE 1988 EDITION OF THE STANDARD MECHANICAL CODE, THE 1989 REVISIONS THERETO AND ANY AND ALL SUBSEQUENT AMENDMENTS OR REVISIONS THERETO, DELETING SECTION 3Ø5.3.3 OF SAID MECHANICAL CODE, AMENDING SECTION 5Ø4 .1. 1 OF SAID MECHANICAL CODE, AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Section 13 1/2-2 of Chapter 13 1/2 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of San Marcos, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows: . . . Sec. 13 1/2-2 National Code Adopted The rules and regulations of the Standard Mechanical Code, 1988 edition, published by the Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc., 9ØØ Montclair Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35213-12Ø6 are adopted and the 1989 revisions to said edition published by said Congress, and an y and all subsequent amendments thereto, of which a copy has been and now is filed in the office of the City Secretary of the City of San Marcos, and the same is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set out herein. The Code shall regulate all work, construction, installation, operation and maintenance of heating and air conditioning equipment, apparatus and fixtures except as otherwise specifically provided in this Chapter within the corporate limits of the City. SECTION 2. That Section 3Ø5.3.3 of the 1988 Edition of the Standard Mechanical Code is hereby deleted in its entirety. SECTION 3. That Section 5Ø4.l of the 1988 Edition of the Standard Mechanical Code is hereby amended by the addition of the following: 5Ø4.l Joints, Seams and Connections 5Ø4 . 1. 1 . .. Where Fiber Glass Duct Board is used it shall comply with the requirements of UL 181. The following 3 types of closure systems are to be used on the various types of duct board as follows: 1. Closure I, Heat Sealing Tape~ Use 3" minimum wide strip. Heat seal all longitudinal and circumferential joints with a hot iron (5Ø0° -550° F). Center strip over edge of stapling flap. Staples are not required when automatic closure equipment: is used for the longitudinal joint. 2. Closure II, Pressure Sensitive Tapes: Use 2 1/2" minimum wide tapé-; ---Apply to all longitudinal and circumferential joints and rub in carefully. Center tape over edge of stapling flap. Heat seal if temperature is below 40° F. Tapes used for Closure II systems shall be UL 181 A-P listed. 3. Closure IV, Tape and Mastic~ Secure the joint with approved mastic and one layer of open mesh glass tape. Brush on a 4" wide coating over the stapled flap. Embed the open mesh glass tape in the mastic. Apply an additional coat of mastic over the tape filling in the me sh .
