<br /> 12 <br /> ORDINANCE 1989-20 <br /><::r" <br />-- AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br /> OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 13-1/2 <br /> OF THE CODE ORDINANCES OF SAID CITY TO ADOPT <br /> THE 1988 EDITION OF THE STANDARD MECHANICAL <br /> CODE, THE 1989 REVISIONS THERETO AND ANY AND <br /> ALL SUBSEQUENT AMENDMENTS OR REVISIONS <br /> THERETO, DELETING SECTION 3Ø5.3.3 OF SAID <br /> MECHANICAL CODE, AMENDING SECTION 5Ø4 .1. 1 OF <br /> SAID MECHANICAL CODE, AND DECLARING AN <br /> EFFECTIVE DATE. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br /> TEXAS: <br /> SECTION 1. That Section 13 1/2-2 of Chapter 13 1/2 of the <br /> Code of Ordinances of the City of San Marcos, Texas, is <br /> hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> . . . <br /> Sec. 13 1/2-2 National Code Adopted <br /> The rules and regulations of the Standard Mechanical <br /> Code, 1988 edition, published by the Southern Building <br /> Code Congress International, Inc., 9ØØ Montclair Road, <br /> Birmingham, Alabama 35213-12Ø6 are adopted and the 1989 <br /> revisions to said edition published by said Congress, <br /> and an y and all subsequent amendments thereto, of which <br /> a copy has been and now is filed in the office of the <br /> City Secretary of the City of San Marcos, and the same <br /> is hereby adopted and incorporated as fully as if set <br /> out herein. The Code shall regulate all work, <br /> construction, installation, operation and maintenance of <br /> heating and air conditioning equipment, apparatus and <br /> fixtures except as otherwise specifically provided in <br /> this Chapter within the corporate limits of the City. <br /> SECTION 2. That Section 3Ø5.3.3 of the 1988 Edition of the <br /> Standard Mechanical Code is hereby deleted in its entirety. <br /> SECTION 3. That Section 5Ø4.l of the 1988 Edition of the <br /> Standard Mechanical Code is hereby amended by the addition of <br /> the following: <br /> 5Ø4.l Joints, Seams and Connections <br /> 5Ø4 . 1. 1 . .. Where Fiber Glass Duct Board is used it <br /> shall comply with the requirements of UL 181. The following <br /> 3 types of closure systems are to be used on the various <br /> types of duct board as follows: <br /> 1. Closure I, Heat Sealing Tape~ Use 3" minimum wide <br /> strip. Heat seal all longitudinal and circumferential <br /> joints with a hot iron (5Ø0° -550° F). Center strip <br /> over edge of stapling flap. Staples are not required <br /> when automatic closure equipment: is used for the <br /> longitudinal joint. <br /> 2. Closure II, Pressure Sensitive Tapes: Use 2 1/2" <br /> minimum wide tapé-; ---Apply to all longitudinal and <br /> circumferential joints and rub in carefully. Center <br /> tape over edge of stapling flap. Heat seal if <br /> temperature is below 40° F. Tapes used for Closure II <br /> systems shall be UL 181 A-P listed. <br /> 3. Closure IV, Tape and Mastic~ Secure the joint with <br /> approved mastic and one layer of open mesh glass tape. <br /> Brush on a 4" wide coating over the stapled flap. Embed <br /> the open mesh glass tape in the mastic. Apply an <br /> additional coat of mastic over the tape filling in the <br /> me sh . <br />
