<br />With a budget of over $ , the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District opera tes a <br />highly accredited campus, including the kindergarten, four elementary (with one under construction), one <br />junior high (grades 7 -8) and one senior high school (grades 9-12). In 1986, the system had an estimated <br />enrollment of -. <br /> <br />The San Marcos Baptist Academy and the Brown School are two private educational institutes also located <br />within the City. Also located in the City is Gary Job Corps, a federal training center which provides <br />technical training and employs 63.5 persons. <br /> <br />Churches <br />San Marcos has 39 churches representing all major denominations. <br /> <br />Library <br />The City operates a public library with over 39,000 volumes. Southwest Texas State University Library <br />has over 6.50,000 volumes. <br /> <br />Recreation <br />Aquarena Springs and Wonder World, two of the State's top rated tourist attractions, are located in the <br />city limits. Approximately 6~0,000 tourists and visitors paid admission to these facilities in 198.5. <br /> <br />The City maintains five public parks, consisting of eight baseball fields, one olympic size swimming pool, <br />six lighted tennis courts and various picnic facilities. There is also a private Country Club with a <br />restaurant, swimming pool, tennis courts, and an eighteen hole golf course which is open to the public. <br />There is excellent hunting and fishing available throughout this area of the state. <br /> <br />- 23- <br />
