<br />Motor Freight. . . The City is served by nine motor freight companies with daily schedules. <br /> <br /> <br />Bus Services. . . Local bus service is available daily from two bus lines, Greyhound and Trailways. <br /> <br />Taxi Services. . . Two local taxi services are available with daily service. <br /> <br />Utilities <br />Electricity. . . Wholesale 'service is currently provided to the City by the Lower Colorado River <br />Authority. In October 1986, the City sold $16,355,000 in Electric Utility System Revenue Bonds to <br />purchase, improve, extend and equip an electric light and power distribution system. The City now owns <br />and operates this system. <br /> <br />Gas. . . Entex is the major source of gas for the City. <br /> <br />Water and Sewage. . . Provided by the City at some of the most desirable rates in the area. <br /> <br />Telephone. . . The City's telephone service is provided by an independent telephone company, the San <br />Marcos Telephone Company. <br /> <br />Business and Industry <br />Dun and Bradstreet rate 395 business establishments. Principal industries produce outdoor lighting <br />fixtures, electric generators, heat transfer equipment and portland cement. It is easily identified by the castle-like structure of Old Main which <br />was the first building constructed when the university, then a college, began operation in 1901. It became <br />a university on May l.5, 1969, and now has an enrollment of 20,206 studenU from Texas, 4& other states, <br />and 60 foreign countries.
