These airrúrt iITprov~€nts, along with the dynamic growth occurri~g in
tlie h..:stin/San ~:arcos/San Antonio corridor IT'ake the need for adequate,
safe, and sufficient airport facilities more critical with each passing
rronth. As airport use continues to grow, expansion of aviation
facilities is absolutely essential.

Based upon the Master Plan prepared earlier and the current operating
characteristics at the airport, it is imperative that additional
property within the terminal area location becare available. '!he Job
Corps facilities identified, while a nominal asset to the Department of
LaJ.::or, could be put to better public use if they were conveyed to the
City of San ~arcos.

'l11ere is not other sui table land that could be developed as eoonanical-
ly or efficiently as the Job Corps land requested. Recently, ap-
proximately 120 acres of land previously identified for industrial use
was re-classified to flood plain, thus making land for airport develop-
ment even more critical than before.

The City of San l-Brcos is prepared to begin developing that land in
aviation and aviation-related facilities as soon as the land is
conveyed. The City is receiving an increasing nmnber of inquiries fran
interested corporations and developers who would be able to provide the
necessary financial and technical resources to develop the pr~.

Additional property is needed in the in1neðiate future, not later than
the summer of 1988. It is possible the Job Corps could continue to use
facilities until the area is needed for aeronautical purposes.
The following projects are recently canpleted, are underway, or have
applications for aid pending under the Airport Improvement Program
(AlP). Those marked with an asterisk will be locally funded:

1.

Reconstruction of ILS RurMay 12-30.

2.

Replacement of shattered slábs and overlay portion of
apron.

3.

Construction of new parallel taxiway for Runway 12-30.

4.

Construction of a new general aviation terminal
building. *

5.

Reconstruction of Runway 8-26.

6.

Auto parking lot and miscellaneous drainage improve-
ments.*

7.

Relocation of airport access rœd.
