ORDINANCE N0.2009- 11 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE SAN MARCOS CITY CODE TO ADOPT A NEW DIVISION 21 OF ARTICLE 3 TO ESTABLISH A VETERAN' S AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMITTEE; AND INCLUDING PROCEDURAL PROVISIONS RECITALS: 1. The City of San Marcos recognizes the sacrifices made by its many war veterans. 2. The City further recognizes the service and value to the community that has been exhibited by its war veterans. 3 The City Council wishes to establish a Veteran's Affairs Advisory Committee to act in an advisory capacity to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board, other city boards and commissions, and the City staff on programs, policies and activities that are unique to veterans and important to the overall fabric of the community. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, TEXAS: SECTION 1. Chapter 2, Article 3 of the City Code is amended by adding a new Division 21, Veteran's Affairs Advisory Committee, to read as follows: DIVISION 21. VETERAN' S AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMITTEE Sec. 2.370.20. Created; composition; terms; officers. (a) The veteran's affairs advisory committee is created and shall be composed of seven members appointed by the city council. (b) The city council will endeavor to appoint persons to the committee who are residents of San Marcos or Hays County and are veterans or the spouses of veterans collectively representing the various war eras and veterans organizations existing within San Marcos and Hays County. (c) The members of the commission are appointed for staggered three-year terms. Sec. 2.370.21. General powers and duties. (a) The veteran's affairs advisory committee will act in an advisory capacity to the park and recreation advisory board and the city staff on issues that are unique to veterans within San Marcos and Hays County.
