ORDINANCE N0.2009- 11 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN <br />MARCOS, TEXAS, AMENDING CHAPTER 2 OF THE SAN MARCOS <br />CITY CODE TO ADOPT A NEW DIVISION 21 OF ARTICLE 3 TO <br />ESTABLISH A VETERAN' S AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMITTEE; <br />AND INCLUDING PROCEDURAL PROVISIONS <br />RECITALS: <br />1. The City of San Marcos recognizes the sacrifices made by its many war veterans. <br />2. The City further recognizes the service and value to the community that has been <br />exhibited by its war veterans. <br />3 The City Council wishes to establish a Veteran's Affairs Advisory Committee to <br />act in an advisory capacity to the Park and Recreation Advisory Board, other city boards and <br />commissions, and the City staff on programs, policies and activities that are unique to veterans <br />and important to the overall fabric of the community. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAN MARCOS, <br />TEXAS: <br />SECTION 1. Chapter 2, Article 3 of the City Code is amended by adding a new <br />Division 21, Veteran's Affairs Advisory Committee, to read as follows: <br />DIVISION 21. VETERAN' S AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMITTEE <br />Sec. 2.370.20. Created; composition; terms; officers. <br />(a) The veteran's affairs advisory committee is created and shall be composed of seven <br />members appointed by the city council. <br />(b) The city council will endeavor to appoint persons to the committee who are residents <br />of San Marcos or Hays County and are veterans or the spouses of veterans collectively <br />representing the various war eras and veterans organizations existing within San Marcos <br />and Hays County. <br />(c) The members of the commission are appointed for staggered three-year terms. <br />Sec. 2.370.21. General powers and duties. <br />(a) The veteran's affairs advisory committee will act in an advisory capacity to the park <br />and recreation advisory board and the city staff on issues that are unique to veterans <br />within San Marcos and Hays County.
